This premier Cru of Volnay is amongst the very finest of the appellation. Displaying an extra layer of velvet and voluptuous fruit. Volnay has long been a favourite of wine lovers. Louis the XI ordered the entire village production in 1477 when he took over the Duchy of Burgundy. Also Thomas Jefferson was a well known Volnay lover. This premier cru sits on the Pommard side but unlike its hearty neighbour Fremiets produces on of the most refined and elegant wine of the whole Volnay appellation. Coming from old vines which are planted at high density to force the roots dig deep into the terroir to capture the best nutrient comes this gorgeous, generous with a rich and slightly gamey bouquet that unfolds in the glass. The palate is well balanced with sappy, juicy red and black fruit infused with liquorice and light tobacco notes leading to the structured finish. Spicy notes on the aftertaste linger a long time, leaving you reaching to pour another glass.
