Bordeaux 2020 En Primeur | La Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou
Dating back to the 13th Century, Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou is one of the oldest wine producing estate in all Medoc. Beaucaillou, which translates to "beautiful stones", is a very special place indeed.
The Borie family have been in charge of this outstanding estate since the early 1940s, but it was with the arrival of Bruno Borie in 2003 that things began to boom. Since then, quality has never been so high, thanks to his magic touch.
His strive for innovation and progress influenced a revival of Ducru's second label, La Croix, which was originally introduced in 1995.
Extensive improvements in vine selection and vinification made for a raising popularity of La Croix amongst wine lovers. Coming from a separate vineyard, La Croix is a wine bearing its own personality and charm.
The vines lay close to Chateau Talbot and Leoville Barton, on the norther part of the estate. The blend has a high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon which imparts a virile style without compromising balance and freshness.
The 2020 vintage comes with full endorsement from wine critic Jane Anson. "A standout success” in her eyes, which deserves a whopping 95 points.
This is one of the most gorgeous example of La Croix we have come across and we strongly advise to reserve few cases for your collection.

95 Points, Jane Anson, Decanter
"So much purity and definition, this is a beautiful wine with clarity of flavour. Touches of grilled almond and rosemary, mocha, smoke and coffee bean, there is so much freshness, with juice rushing in between the muscles and a mint leaf finish. 3.78pH, 60% new oak. Yields were 25-30hl/ha. In a year where second wines in the Médoc have sometimes suffered from over-concentration, La Croix de Beaucaillou is a standout success. Drinking Window 2026 - 2042"
