The Mascot | 2016 by Will Harlan
The 2016 vintage is, without question, one of the modern Napa greats. The wines are beautifully balanced, fragrant, and polished in texture.
Critics have waxed lyrical about the wines, awarding a roll-call of 100 pointers that includes The Mascot's viticultural blood relatives: Promontory, Harlan Estate, and BOND.
Wine Source tasted the 2015, 2016 & 2017 with friends including Decanter's Tina Gellie in London, and we are thrilled to see these sensational bottlings' clearly struck the right chord. We are convinced it's one of the best Napa Cabs we've tasted - period - as our American friends might say.
Each month Decanter's editorial team taste a lot of wine, but not all of it makes it on the page. The Mascot 2015, 2016 & 2017 was included as their in-house pick of great wines tasted in their latest edition.
There is a wonderful, heady perfume to the 2016. It's full of fresh dark fruit, violets, eucalyptus and oak spice. You really feel the hillside wildness of these great terroirs. There is palpable concentration on the palate too but it's all balanced by juicy acidity, making the fruit glossy and plush.
