La Rinconada Vineyard was planted by famous botanist-turned-winemaker Richard Sanford in the mid-nineties; it is adjacent to and just west of his famed Sanford & Benedict Vineyard. Justin's parcel of vines on this vineyard is uniquely protected from the ocean winds by the hilltop of the La Encantada Vineyard just to the west - as you might imagine, this gives it just that bit of an edge over other Chardonnays you might find with the same vineyard name... Justin's Chardonnay here is planted on rare and fine well drained, deep shale-loam soils full of silica; ideal conditions for growing great wine. The 2018 displays both the subtle power of the favourable position of the vineyard and all the finesse of Sta Rita Hills Chardonnay grown in these mineral-laden soils. Lip-smacking flavours of lemon curd, chamomile tea and oyster shell are carried by an alluring mouth-filling texture and the wine finishes with a stunning tension and freshness. This is a bottle to impress and delight.
White orchard fruit, crushed rocks, mint, white pepper and light tropical accents all run through the 2018 Chardonnay La Rinconada Vineyard.
