2017 is the first vintage of Claret at Tyler and we find it is very typical of a classic Saint Emilion/Pomerol blend that you might get in Bordeaux, but made in the far more exciting Happy Canyon Vineyard situated in the Southeast corner of of the Santa Ynez Valley. The area’s warm climate, geography, and soil composition distinguish it from other grape growing regions in Santa Barbara County. The big temperature difference between day and night make it a perfect spot to cultivate Bordeaux varietals to the optimum level of ripeness. Smooth and really packed with fruit, we recommend to let the wine breathe for an hour in a decanter before serving.
The 2017 Claret is a new Merlot-based wine. Bright red fruit, crushed flowers and dried herbs shape this mid-weight, aromatic red. Dollops of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot round out the blend. The 2017 was aged mostly in neutral oak.
